RTC Happenings
Sudha Shah, author of the book, “The King in Exile” visited RTC College and gave a talk on her book on August 9, 2013.She is a Mumbai-based writer and was also one of the speakers for the Mountain Echoes Literary Festival this year.
“The King in Exile” is a biography of King Thibaw, popularly known as the last King of Burma. The book emphasizes on the lives of the last Burmese royal family and its descendants. In particular, the book provides a detailed portrayal of their personal life, especially during exile in India and immediately afterwards.
Sudha Shah shared some of her personal experiences as a writer and the challenges she had to face while writing the book. She had spent several years researching on the royal family and actually found that nothing was written on the royal family apart from some occasional newspaper and magazine articles. She said this had actually made her want to tell their story.
“I wanted a book that would interest people and that would make them think about what actually happened to them.” - Sudha Shah
